Let's Hear It for the Underwire Guys

Oddly enough, her cancer has taught us that life is good, dealing with it can be hard, and sometimes the very best thing—no, the only thing—we can do to face another day is to laugh at ourselves, and share a laugh with others. - Bob Carey.

Hello Girlfriends,

This month we wanted to give a shout out to all the amazing men who support Pink Ribbon Warriors everywhere. Photographer Bob Carey produced an incredible series of photos to cheer up his wife when she was fighting her breast cancer battle. They make us laugh every time we see one, and we just can't help but "lovin' dat man!" For more of his photos, check out this link.

Oh so supportive and close to our hearts,
It's with Underwire Guys that true support starts.

These Real Men still show up when life's not so pretty;
they've got what it takes for the real nitty gritty.

It shows what they're made of, these 'boys' young and old~
A Man Who Wears Pink is worth far more than gold.

Now that we've got you smiling, check out what's happening!
Annual Spicy Green Bean
Run, Diva, Run!
Riverfront Park, Glastonbury CT
April 7 at 9:00 a.m.
(Registration begins at 7:30am)

The Run Diva Run, sponsored by Spicy Green Bean Catering of Glastonbury, is less than two weeks away, and there is an exciting challenge on the table.

The Diva Race is not only for Divas and wannabes, but for all who support the fight against breast cancer. Men, women, kids, neighbors, friends, students, families: we welcome you all! Break out your best Diva wear - a boa, hat, gloves, bling, sassy glasses, whatever! Bring it on! The more sequins, sparkle, bows, and over the top, the better! We don't know yet if our prom gown runner will join us again this year, but we can hope!

If we get 300 registered runners and walkers for this year’s event, an anonymous donor will present Team Towanda with a $300 check. Further, they will add $1 for every additional runner and walker up to 400, where an additional $100 will kick in. So, 400 runners equals a $500 bonus for Team Towanda!

Glastonbury River Runners will donate $5 from every registration fee directly to Team Towanda. In 2012, Run Diva Runners presented Team Towanda with a check for $1,250. That's a whole lotta mammies being grammed, baby! Grab your pink gear and bring your friends, family members, co-workers, and neighbors to help make this a record breaking year!

What can you do to help?
  • You can run or walk the race
  • You can ask your friends, families and co-workers to do the same
  • You can volunteer for any of the many jobs on race day
  • You can bake some cookies for the post-race party
  • Or just dig your pink gear out of the closet and come out to support our runners.

  • If you want to help out, contact Susan Sacco or Rich Baber at, or just show up on race day. And mark Sunday, April 7 at 9:00 AM on your calendar.

Course info: The 5K road race and two mile walk will start at 9:00 AM from Riverfront Park and follow a circular route through the neighborhood. View the Diva Run course on

Registration: Registration is $20. Register online at or download and mail in the Diva Run Registration Form with a check. Race-day registration begins at 7:30 AM.

The first 150 registered participants get a free t-shirt.

And don't forget the Kid's Fun Run and Face Painting by Sparkles the Clown! It is just a great family event.

New This Year! Stop by the Team Towanda Table to pick up a pink flag to honor a Pink Ribbon Warrior in your life! The personalized flags will line the course to cheer on all the walkers and runners as we continue this run/walk/march in the fight against Breast Cancer!

Susan Campbell, a longtime Friend of Towanda, has accepted our invitation to be our Mistress of Ceremonies, providing we come up with a far more fabulous title than that for her. Susan's writing has been recognized by the American Association of Sunday and Features Editors; National Women's Political Caucus; the Sunday Magazine Editors Association, and the Connecticut chapter of Society of Professional Journalists. She was also a member of the Courant's 1999 Pulitzer Prize-winning team for breaking news. She is co-author of a travel book, Connecticut Curiosities and she lives in Connecticut with her husband. AND, best of all.........she's a total chick who 'gets' Team Towanda!

We'll be filling you in on more details, but so far we can give you a peak what we have planned so far: * Female comics that are guaranteed to tickle you pink and make you laugh til you tinkle! * Tickets are only $25. It will be a BYOEverything event, but Spicy Green Bean Catering is working with us to give you a "no work/no schlep option". * Reserved tables of 6 or 8 will be available, or you can come by yourself and we’ll find you a table of new friends! * Dr. Beth Brady has accepted our invitation and offered "to do whatever you guys want me to do." ooooohhh...... this is going to be FUN!

Stay tuned for more details and to be up to the minute on ticket sales!
Now, do your friends a favor and share this email with any fun women you know who 'get' what Team Towanda is all about. You know who they are. Tell them to get to our website to sign up for our eblasts so they don't miss a thing and you don't have to be the Go To Chick for everything.

We close with this little ditty for all those men in our lives who fight the fight everyday with, for, and alongside the Pink Ribbon Warriors in their lives:

Mammograms can save a life ~
    Tell your mother, sister, wife!

    Husbands, fathers, brothers, sons ~
Remind all women to "Git 'em done"!
