I'd rather look back at my life and say
"I can't believe I did that"
instead of saying,
"I wish I did that."
Only 14 more days until Spring! If you live in the Northeast, you were probably
wondering if we were ever going to get here. Hopefully you've braved this crazy
weather with humor and grace. If not, I hope your friends and family have
survived to tell the tale. Rumor on the street is that Punxsutawney Phil, the
groundhog, has gone into a Witness Protection Program.
We've got three really fun events coming up and hope you'll be able to join us.
We have something for everybody this year, so get out your calendar and make
sure you get your TTF Fix!
Spicy Green Bean Run, Diva, Run!
Riverfront Park, Glastonbury CT
April 7 at 9:00 a.m.
Time to channel your inner diva and get all your girlfriends and the really
supportive men in your life that are close to your heart (your "Underwire Guys")
to come out to the 3rd Annual Spicy Green Bean Run, Diva, Run! to support Team
Towanda Foundation. This family-friendly 5K Run/Walk is hosted by the
Glastonbury River Runners and is a great way to welcome spring.
Alison ran last year and is an inspiration to us all. Run, Alison! Run, fast!
Run, Alison, Run!
To register and get all the details, please click here. As an added
incentive this year, a FOT (friend of Towanda) has issued a challenge: If we get
300 registered participants this year, the FOT will donate a $300 bonus to Team
Towanda! PLUS an extra dollar for every participant over 300. If we hit 400
participants, there is an additional $100 bonus! That's a lot of mammograms!
It's a great morning event and everyone has a blast. Sparkles the Clown will be
on hand for face painting and to start the Kids' Fun Run. Everyone is welcome
to enjoy either the 5K run or the 2 mile walk at her own pace. See you there!
Mother~Daughter Tea and Portraits
Sunday, May 5 in Glastonbury CT
Our gal pals Nancy Hayden of Ginger and Pickles Baking & Catering Company and
Award Winning photographic artist Lynne Damon of Glastonbury are pooling
their talents to host a truly one of a kind event to benefit Team Towanda
Foundation just in time for Mother's Day. Bring your mom, daughter, or any
important woman in your life for high tea and a portrait. Seating will be
limited, so please check our website for more details as they become
available. Doesn't this sound like the PERFECT Mother's Day Gift??
Too Too Funny Comedy Night to support
Team Towanda Foundation
Wethersfield Community Center
October 25, 2013
Mark your calendars NOW for our first ever ladies comedy night! We promise you
will be tickled pink and laugh 'til you tinkle!
Watch for more details to follow, but this is one you will NOT want to miss!
Start getting your friends together as we will be selling reserved tables for
this event. Unlike our FUNdraiser that requires an invitation, this event will
be publicly advertised and space will be limited. We just couldn't wait another
whole year to see all our girlfriends at the next FUNdraiser. This event will
let us get our fix AND raise some much needed cash to support the Towanda Funds
that provide mammograms for uninsured underserved women in the Greater Hartford
Fight ~ Pray ~ Live ~ Laugh ~ Love
Q: So, Team Towanda… just what do you do when you aren’t at the FUNdraiser?
A: Glad you asked!
Here are some highlights of what kept us busy in 2012:
Net proceeds from the FUNdraiser, cookbook sales, other events and donations totaled nearly $50,000!
We contributed nearly $31,000 to the Towanda Funds at Hartford Hospital and ECHN, and supplied our Cheer Carts at infusion centers and Towanda Totes for clinic lumpectomy patients.
As part of our outreach we are printing a new and improved version of our tri-fold brochure in English and Spanish! These pamphlets are used at events, and will be distributed to doctors’ offices and women’s groups to increase awareness of free mammograms and breast services.
Other events we participated in include:
The Spicy Green Bean Run, Diva, Run!
The 2012 FUNdraiser for 500 of our best girlfriends
The Connecticut Women’s Expo
Sharon’s Lineup Fundraiser
Avon Country Club Tennis Fundraiser
Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce Jingle Mingle
Ribbon Cutting for new Mobile Mammography van
Wethersfield Scarecrows on Main Street – Second Place Winner!!
Appearance on Channel 8 Connecticut Style program
Audience appearance on the plaza at the Today show in NYC
Receipt of Congressman John Larson’s Nancy Pilver Award
Feature article in The Hartford Courant
Met some of the most extraordinary women on the planet!
But, most of all…… we had a blast!
Thank you to everyone who came along for the ride in 2012!
P.S. Remember to Check Your Humps For Lumps!
Wishing you all the breast ~
All your girlfriends at Team Towanda,
Alison, Judith, Monica, Debbie and Ellen
