Brrrrr! Is there frost on your pumpkins yet? This was such a crazy summer. We
still have flotsam from the April FUNdraiser in our cars and yet here it
September. This summer just went TOO fast. Excuse me, but who do we see about
We’ve had a relatively quiet summer after the Pink Chaos of the Spring but
things are shifting back into high gear with a number of events we want to tell
you about. Some real soon, some into the future. You’ll want to have your
calendar handy when you read this update!
Connecticut Women’s Expo
THIS WEEKEND, SATURDAY Sept 22nd and SUNDAY 23rd from 10am - 5pm is the Connecticut
Women’s Expo at the Connecticut Convention Center. Grab a buddy and come on down
for a fun couple of hours: Team Towanda will be there and we’d love to see some
familiar faces and meet some new friends. There are all kinds of free give
aways, celebrities to meet, and very cool shopping opportunities; over 400
exhibitors! Wouldn’t you just love to be that girl who has all her holiday
shopping done by Thanksgiving?
Please stop by the TTF booth to say hello and maybe pick up a cookbook or
two? We’ll have a few gift wrapped sets all ready for hostess gifts for all
those upcoming parties. Admission is usually $10 per person but hey, you know
PEOPLE (us!) You can print FREE entry coupons by clicking here.
Scarecrows on Main Street
Don't miss the annual "Scarecrows on Main" in Old Wethersfield! Bring your family for
a stroll through beautiful Old Wethersfield to see the entries to the annual
Scarecrow Contest. They are on display Sept 29 – Oct 30 and of course, Team
Towanda will have an entry. We’re still working on the design, but you can be
sure it will be Towanda-worthy!
Think Pink. Spend Green.
Our friends at Heart of the Country (169 Main Street in Wethersfield, CT) are
helping to raise funds for Team Towanda! From September 20 - October 31, they
are asking patrons for help filling their "Hope Wreath". In exchange for a $5
donation, you will receive a pink ribbon to put on their wreath to recognize a
cancer survivor, someone currently in treatment, or a lost loved one and you
will also receive an entry to win a new Vera Bradley Breast Cancer pattern,
"Ribbons" Gift Set. Everyone loves prizes and all funds raised will be given to
Team Towanda Foundation! How cool is that?!
Check Your Humps for Lumps in Salon Format!
Towanda wants every girlfriend who goes to a salon this fall to "check her humps
for lumps". We've updated and formatted our familiar lump card to be just
one-sided so it can ideally be posted on as many mirrors and in as many local
salons this fall as possible.
Click here to download the latest version, or email us to let us know how
many we can ship to you to personally post in your own business or deliver to
your favorite salon. (Our copies are printed on heavy light pink paper.)
While you're at it, be creative and be daring! Some ideas to get you started:
this same little reminder might need to appear on the mirrors of the ladies’
room at work, or church, or the gym, the bulletin board in a teacher’s lounge, a
dance class waiting room, or outside the nursery school door. What about where
you get your nails or hair done? Tape it to the drive up ATM machine! Ask your
ob-gyn to tape it to the ceiling over the exam table! For a week, tape a copy
inside every bathroom stall you use! Mail copies to all your girlfriends and see
who can come up with the most outrageous place to post one. Of course, if you
choose to do something illegal, we did not suggest it!
Speaking of cooler weather, this is a good time to remind you that Sisters Oil
of Farmington is ready to service your home fuel needs. This very cool new
company has teamed up with Team Towanda in the fight against breast cancer by
contributing a portion of every sale to Team Towanda Foundation. You can warm
your heart as you warm your house knowing that your purchase helps to make life
a little bit easier for a woman in need faced with a breast cancer diagnosis.
You can spot their very chic oil truck covered with pink ribbons making
deliveries in the Farmington Valley and eastern Litchfield County towns. Honk
and wave to let them know you know Towanda! Visit their website and when you
call, please be sure to tell them Towanda sent you!
2013 Run Diva Run
The Glastonbury River Runners/Spicy Green Bean Deli Diva Run to benefit Team
Towanda Foundation will be held April 14, 2013. Mark your calendar and start
thinking about what your level of participation will be. There is a Kid’s Fun
Run, a 5K road race, and a 2 mile walk. It is just a beautiful pink morning in
Glastonbury and so much fun so channel your inner Diva and dig up a tiara and
stay tuned for more details!

The next Team Towanda FUNdraiser is tentatively scheduled for April 26, 2014.
Yes, 2014 - we’re going to give you plenty of time to recover from the last
FUNdraiser and rest up for the next. Every committee chair read through every
single suggestion and comment on the survey and we’re already thinking about
ways to make the next one even better than the last! We won’t make you
pinkie-swear, but if you think you might be interested in helping plan the next
event, please email us and we’ll put your name on the list with other
VERY IMPORTANT: if you change your email or home address, you must let us know
so we can update our database. We still feel bad about the girlfriends who
missed the April event because we didn’t have their current contact info. Just
to be sure you don’t miss a single word about this and other upcoming events,
please have any interested friends and family sign up for our email blasts. And
of course, as always, we never ever share our email list with anyone, not even
for chocolate. Click here to fill out our contact form.
We leave you with three very important things to remember:
1. Don’t forget to schedule your mammogram!
2. Do your monthly self breast exam, then call your breast friend and remind her
to do hers.
3. Make arrangements to go do something fun to reward yourselves after!
Wishing you all the breast!
Judith, Monica, Debbie, Ellen, and Alison
