Any frost on the pumpkins yet? Lots of our friends are big football fans and are very excited about the games this season. To get in the spirit of things, we decided to come up with a TTF cheer!
“Check the left! Check the right!
That is how we’ll win the fight!
GO…. GET A MAMMOGRAM!”
What do you think? Judith made it up herself. With NO help. From ANY of us. It was ALL HER.
Halloween and Other Scary Stuff
This month the Susan G. Komen Connecticut Affiliate released the 2011 Community Profile Report of Breast Cancer in Connecticut. Now here are some statistics that will get your full attention and send chills up your spine:
The State of Connecticut has the second highest incidence of female breast cancer in the nation with 2,920 new breast cancer cases diagnosed in 2008 (most
recent data available).
CT ranks 35th in the nation with respect to breast cancer mortality; 490 women died from breast cancer in 2008.
In terms of insurance coverage, it is estimated based on the 2007 data that there are 142,975 uninsured women in CT.
The 5-year relative survival for Connecticut women diagnosed with breast cancer is over 90%; however, the survival rate varies greatly with the stage of the cancer at diagnosis.
The following 39 towns have been identified by Komen CT as “communities of interest”. These were defined as areas with high rates of breast cancer mortality and high proportions of late stage cancer diagnoses where interventions will likely have the most impact.
